The Madison Main Street Program's Executive Director and Board of Directors congratulate Gina Johnson on her appointment to the Indiana Grown Initiative Commission. The Madison Farmers Market, operated by the Madison Main Street Program, is fortunate to have Gina as its Market Manager. Gina is doing a superb job of managing the Madison Farmers Market and we are confident she will be a valuable contributor to the Indiana Grown Initiative Commission. Gina is now 1 of 10 members recently appointed by Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch for the Indiana Grown Initiative Commission.
This opportunity means so much to me as I will be able to not only represent the voices and needs of Farmers Markets on this commission, but I will be there as a representative of the Madison Farmers Market, the Madison Main Street Program, and the City of Madison.

The members of this commission will work closely with the staff of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) to provide guidance and support on behalf of the Indiana Grown members. The commission will be chaired by the director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and be joined by a representative from Purdue University. The ISDA mission is to "Support growth in Indiana agriculture by serving as an advocate at the local, state and federal level; defining and nurturing economic opportunity in the food, fuel and fiber sectors; and enhancing the stewardship of natural resources on agricultural land..." The Madison Farmers Market, operated by the Madison Main Street Program since 2021, is a year-round 100% Producer-Only market held at the Broadway Fountain every Saturday. Vendors offer nearly everything a local shopper wants or needs: vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, honey, flowers, herbs, plants, soap, shoulder bags, jewelry, gift cards, and art. The Madison Farmers Market is the oldest Farmers Market in the state of Indiana with its beginnings dating back to 1809.
