Dr. Cami Helton knew she wanted to live and work in the community where she grew up. She’s been able to realize that dream by opening Helton Eye Care at 713 W. Main St.
After earning a doctor of optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry in 2015, Dr. Helton joined Dr. Black’s Eye Associates of Southern Indiana. She practiced in the Versailles and Madison locations.
Then in June 2020 Dr. Helton and her husband, Kyle, purchased Dr. Black’s Versailles location, which had operated for 50 years as Ripley County Vision. She continued to see patients from both Ripley and Jefferson counties there.

Meanwhile, she began looking for a location to bring her services here. “My husband and I decided we wanted to be in our hometown.” After initially looking at the former Madison Courier location, she decided a former duplex home on West Main Street better suited her needs. “I could picture the flow of it for exams in my mind.”
For now she is splitting her time between Versailles and Madison, however the goal is to add an associate who will be in Versailles full time, so she can work in Madison.

Helton Eye Care is a full-service vision clinic, offering comprehensive eye exams to people of all ages, even babies. “I advise a basic comprehensive eye exam at six months to a year,” as well as an exam before a child starts school. “I’m a big proponent of detecting any eye issues early in school. If a child can’t see it, they can’t learn it. There are ways we can help,” says Dr. Helton.
That doesn’t necessarily mean glasses. Special eye drops or multifocal contact lenses can slow the progression of near-sightedness, often resulting in better outcomes in adulthood.

For all ages, Helton Eye Care offers lenses and frames, contact lenses, emergency eye exams, eye disease treatment, vision therapy and treatment for dry eyes. For surgical solutions, she works with Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers.

Dr. Helton lives on Madison Main Street with her husband and two sons, 5-year-old Luke and 7-year-old Finn, who are active in youth sports. Kyle Helton is an assistant principal in Trimble County Schools. In her free time, Dr. Helton can be found working out at Madison Cross Fit or playing active sports with her kids.
Madison Main Street Program welcomes Helton Eye Care and wishes them many years of contributing to the community’s good health.
