MADISON, Ind.—The Madison Main Street Program is excited to announce its upcoming 2009 Music in the Park summer concert series line-up.
Music in the Park will kick off with a very special event during the City of Madison’s Bicentennial 200-hour Party week, June 6-14. Music in the Park will be expanded on Friday, June 12, 5-10 pm, into a Block Party on historic Madison’s beautiful Main Street between Broadway and West Street. Come to the Block Party to play old-fashioned carnival and school fair games, visit the petting zoo, and choose from lots of food. All game and food booths are fundraisers for local non-profit organizations. Samesoul, local “folkadelic acoustic-rock” fave, takes the centrally located stage at 6 pm, followed by Slick River Rockets’ rockabilly sound at 8 pm. Music in the Park’s traditional free balloons, free face painting, and family ambiance will still be found at the Bicentennial Block Party, so bring your lawn chairs and come join the fun!
The season moves into July with rockin’ country band Ridge Runners, out of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, on Friday, July 10 back at the regular Music in the Park location north of the Broadway Fountain in downtown Madison. Bacchanal Steel Drum Band will heat up the summer night on Friday, August 14, and the Derby Boys will bring Irish tunes on September 11. The season will wrap up with local oldies rock favorite The Doctors’ Band playing the special Saturday September 26 Music in the Park concert held during, and sponsored by, the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art.
Music in the Park is always a free family event, brought to you by the Madison Main Street Program, with the financial support of sponsors including the Southern Indiana Arts Council, City of Madison Bicentennial, Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art and many other great businesses and friends.
With the exception of the Bicentennial Block Party on June 12, all Music in the Park events are two-hour concerts beginning at 7 pm, and are held at the Broadway Fountain, with rain-out location in the Brown Gym on Broadway between First and Vaughn. The family-friendly events offer free balloons, free face painting, and a concession stand.
For more information about how to be a Music in the Park sponsor, to volunteer, to book your band, or with any other questions, please contact Madison Main Street Program Director Nancy Gruner at 812-701-9500 or ncgruner@hotmail.com.
