Owners Elizabeth and Troy Riley are no strangers to the restaurant world. Elizabeth opened her first restaurant in 1995, a charming spot at Stream Cliff Farm called Twigs & Sprigs Tearoom. “Over the years, that business evolved into a full-service restaurant,” said Riley. In 2020, Elizabeth and Troy opened Crimson Oak Restaurant and Pub in North Vernon, a local favorite that also attracts many guests from Madison. “We were often asked by Madison residents to open a restaurant in Madison,” Elizabeth recalled.

Madison already held a special place in the Rileys’ hearts. Their story came full circle when they purchased the very building where they had their first blind date back in 2012, at the time was 605 Grille. “So, when the building was for sale and we knew we wanted to open a restaurant in Madison, we felt like it was the perfect fit,” Elizabeth gleamed.

On March 21, 2024, River Oak Chophouse officially opened its doors. With its bright red umbrellas shading the front outside seating, a beautiful full bar, romantic lighting, and a menu that caters to both special occasions and casual evenings out, it quickly became a downtown destination. “Our goal in opening River Oak Chophouse was to bring a special restaurant to Main Street. A place that is refined enough to celebrate a special occasion, but still welcoming to enjoy a meal anytime,” said Riley.

The River Oak team prides itself on creating enjoyable experiences. Executive Chef Justin Jones shared, “Some of the most memorable moments have been seeing the team grow and working to meet all guest expectations.” That dedication shines through in every interaction, as guests are always welcomed with a warm smile.

“Definitely interacting with the customers is our favorite part of our day. We’ve made a lot of good friends by getting to know people who visit the restaurant. We also enjoy talking to visitors to Madison. Hearing how much they love and admire Madison helps us not take for granted how beautiful and special our town is.” said Elizabeth.

When it comes to the menu, you cannot go wrong with anything you decide to order. River Oak’s wood-fired steaks are top sellers, with the ribeye and pan seared scallops leading the way. The seafood dip has earned the title of most popular appetizer. The desserts are as delicious as they look, especially the creme Brulé and the banana foster cheesecake!

On the drink side, the smoked Old Fashioned and Espresso Martini are clear fan favorites, but you’ll always find new seasonal drink options and of course, the beloved classics like Martinis and margaritas. New to the menu, bourbon and tequila flights offer guests the chance to sample from the impressive selection of 45 bourbons and more than 15 tequilas.

Whether you’re celebrating, catching up with friends, or simply savoring a night out, River Oak Chophouse is bringing a new level of dining to Madison, a place that feels both timeless and welcoming.

New weekend hours starting September 6^th: Saturday and Sunday Noon-4:00 with a new lunch menu. Happy hour will be 4:00-5:00 with appetizers available and drink specials. 5pm-9pm Dinner.
