Holiday Open House, Small Business Saturday & Downtown Madison, Indiana.
Holiday Open House
Just like everywhere else, the holiday season may look a little different this year in Madison, Indiana in more ways than one. Holiday Open House usually brings crowds of people, local and visitors, rushing to get inside downtown shops. Usually, everyone enjoys warm drinks, snacks, music and more. The holiday spirit is truly in the air that night for the first time each year. 2020 brought many obstacles to this event, but downtown businesses persevered and adapted their plan to accommodate their customers the safest way possible.
While many could not have their normal music & hospitality, they had their doors open and safely welcomed shoppers. It was bittersweet to see the City of Madison finish decorating lamp posts, stop lights, and buildings with lights just in time for all of the winter events, only for them to be canceled due to COVID-19. While the Christmas Parade & Light Up Madison have been canceled, downtown is still stunning. If you have not seen them already, head downtown and see the lights along Main Street and at Broadway Fountain. The City of Madison out did themselves this year and we cannot wait for 2021 already!
Small Business Saturday
2020 has brought a heightened awareness to local businesses all over the U.S. Small Business Saturday is an annual event the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, local businesses worked together & with Main Street to reach their customers in as many ways as possible. Not only did the in-person event safely occur, but a virtual option was available through Madison Main Street as well. From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. downtown businesses went LIVE or posted a video on Facebook to reach customers who could not shop with them in person that day. These videos reached 14,485 unique users on Facebook & accumulated over 200 likes! That means, although they may not have been able to shop with local businesses in person, they were able impacted and able to learn how to shop with and support a local business even beyond Small Business Saturday. That is quite the accomplishment from our amazing inventory of downtown businesses to connect with that large of an audience on ONE day! Small Business Saturday should be EVERY SATURDAY in our opinion. Why not EVERY DAY!? If you were not able to shop on Saturday, no worries! You can shop local with downtown businesses all holiday season long. Thank you again to our sponsor, SuperATV of Madison, Indiana for supporting this event. We also want to thank WORX 96.7 of Madison for having us as a guest on their show to promote this event.
