ABOUT
MADISON MAIN STREET

A national movement, Madison Main Street was 1 of 3 pilot communities selected by the National Trust in 1979.

MISSION & HISTORY.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation began its national Main Street movement in 1979, with Madison as one of three pilot communities. Madison Main Street is a team of residents, business owners, property owners, and civic leaders working together to ensure that downtown Madison is a vibrant place to live, work, shop, dine, visit, and play. Madison Main Street is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization designated by Indiana Main Street and accredited by the National Main Street Center. Madison is one of more than 1,200 Main Street communities across the country with the common goal of preserving America’s historic downtown as economically vital centers of the community.

Madison’s historic downtown district is economically vibrant, with shops, restaurants, and nightlife serving local residents as well as a large number of tourists and visitors. With more than 18 events organized annually, we ensure the investment in our non-profit mission is measurable and promotes all things local. Our volunteers get things done! MMSP is made up of a volunteer-based board and committee leadership. Paid staff follows through with the initiatives and day-to-day organization that is strategically planned by the volunteer base. Become a volunteer today!

COMMITTEES.

Five committees, led by committee chairs, strategically plan and organize Madison Main Street events and initiatives. Promotions, Economic Vitality, Design, Organization, and Farmers Market. Each committee meets monthly to steer the organization along the path in which visitors, customers, and residents request!

FARMERS MARKET.

To promote and rally for downtown! This committee positions the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and hub of economic activity while creating a positive image that showcases a community’s unique characteristics

Design supports a community’s transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart.

Focuses on capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses, catalyze property development, and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators that drive local economies.

This committee involves creating a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.

Farmers Market of Madison with Madison Main Street is a year-round 100% Producer-Only market. Our vendors offer nearly everything a local shopper wants or needs:  vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, honey, flowers, herbs, plants, soap, shoulder bags, jewelry, gift cards, and art.
