MADISON, Ind.—The Madison Main Street Program is excited to announce its upcoming 2010 Music in the Park summer concert series line-up.
Music in the Park will kick off with a very special event during a new annual event called, “Madison Fest”. Madison Fest celebrates Madison and provides the community with an entire family fun-filled weekend of activities as little or no cost.
Madison Fest will begin with a Block Party on Friday, June 11, 5-10 p.m., on historic Madison’s beautiful Main Street between Broadway and West Street. Come to the Block Party to play old-fashioned carnival and school fair games, visit the petting zoo, and choose from lots of food. All game and food booths are fundraisers for local non-profit organizations. The Darryl Hewitt Blues Band, local “blues, and classic rock” will begin our concert at 6 p.m. Followed by another local favorite “Slick River Rockets” at 8 p.m. Music in the Park’s traditional free balloons, free face painting, and family ambiance will still be found, so bring your lawn chairs and come join the fun!
The season moves into July with a one-of-a-kind traditional Irish and bluegrass roots ensemble Cloigheann, out of Louisville, KY, on Friday, July 9 back at the regular Music in the Park location north of the Broadway Fountain in downtown Madison. Conch on the Half Shell will heat up the summer night on Friday, August 13, with a blend of congas, steel drums, ukulele and acoustic guitar, which will take you down to the islands! Wear your Hawaiian shirt! Edgewood will bring rockin’ country tunes on September 10. The season will wrap up with local oldies rock favorite The Doctors’ Band playing the special Saturday September Music in the Park concert held during, and sponsored by, the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art.
Music in the Park is always a free family event, brought to you by the Madison Main Street Program, with the financial support of sponsors including the Indiana Arts Commission, City of Madison, Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art and many other great businesses and friends.
With the exception of the Madison Fest Block Party on June 11, all Music in the Park events are two-hour concerts beginning at 7 pm, and are held at the Broadway Fountain, with rain-out location in the Brown Gym on Broadway between First and Vaughn. The family-friendly events offer free balloons, free face painting, and a concession stand.
